Year of 2016 in Ukraine will pass under slogan of high-profile corruption scandals – experts

KYIV. Dec 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian experts have stated Ukraine started basic reforms in 2015, while they expect the continuation of high-profile corruption scandals in 2016.

“This was the second consecutive year of severe and dramatic tests for the country,” Chairman of Penta Center for Applied Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, if the year of 2014 was the year of test with the war for Ukrainians, the year of 2015 was a year of test with the socio-economic crisis.

Fesenko said that for many Ukrainians this year was “memorable” for increases in housing tariffs and the devaluation of the hryvnia.

At the same time, the expert said we can talk about the beginning of important reforms in Ukraine.

The main political events of the year, according to Fesenko, were the second Minsk accords, the local elections, the continuation of the military-political conflict in Donbas, the tragic events near the Verkhovna Rada on August 31.

With regard to foreign policy, in this context he noted a positive report on the EU visa-free regime for Ukraine and the extension of sanctions against Russia.
