North East football expert Paul Dixon looks at how Newcastle and Sunderland players could feature against England during this summer’s Euro pean Championships.
Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa could be in the French side that line up against England in their first game in Donetsk.
Then Roy Hodgson’s side face Sweden in Kyiv who may include Sunderland’s set-piece specialist Sebastian Larsson in their side.
If England qualify from Group D they could face Ireland in the quarter-finals.
For that to happen, Ireland would also have to qualify from a group including Spain, Italy and Croatia.
Ireland have three Sunderland representatives in their squad – James McClean, John O’Shea and Keiren Westwood.
Also at the finals will be Newcastle’s Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul, who England will not face until the semi-finals.
