When Red Bull Racing Met Kyiv

The Red Bull Racing Running Showcar team rolled into the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv this weekend to demonstrate the thrill of Formula One in a fun and fast display along the city’s streets.

The Red Bull Champions’ Parade included a loud display of the RB7’s capabilities by current Scuderia Toro Rosso driver, Daniel Ricciardo. A 50,000 strong crowd welcomed the demonstration, cheering as Daniel revved the engine of the car that brought us the 2011 Formula One World Championship.

It was the Running Showcar team’s first visit to Ukraine and they were thrilled to be greeted by lively and enthusiastic locals with a thirst for speed. Their reception to Daniel accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.5 seconds could be heard from afar. Spectators were also subject to the smell of burning tyres as Daniel spun smoke-topped donuts in the wide streets of the city. He also found time between runs to switch from the RB7 into the Red Bull NASCAR to show the audience a few tricks in that as well.

Ukrainian Drift Champion, Alex Grinchuk also displayed his skills yesterday, wowing the crowds as he sped down the streets with the Mayor of Kyiv, Alexander Popov as his (slightly nervous) passenger.

Daniel Ricciardo said: “It was great fun to drive the car in the middle of Kyiv! The weather was perfect and the audience and fans were so excited! I’m really happy that there are so many people here who enjoy speed and follow Formula One and it’s been an amazing day!”

It was an exciting day for everyone involved and a welcome introduction to the world of Formula One for the people of Kyiv who experienced a real taste for it through the sounds, speeds, smells and sights produced by the team.

We hope to be back soon!
