Vice President Biden criticizes Russia for role in Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine — U.S. Vice President Biden criticized Russia on Friday for its role in eastern Ukraine, urging Moscow to uphold a cease-fire in the war-torn region.

Biden said Western sanctions against Russia would not be lifted until Moscow does more to enforce the cease-fire. More than 900 people have been killed in eastern Ukraine since a truce began in September.

Biden, who had planned to join Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in laying a wreath to victims of February sniper attacks, stayed in his motorcade when Poroshenko was met with protesters shouting “Shame!”
