UPDATE: Putin Calls For Ceasefire, Vows To Exert Influence On Ukraine Rebels
Moscow (Alliance News) – Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Kyiv to implement a ceasefire while experts investigate the crash site in eastern Ukraine where a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet crashed after being shot down.
“It is necessary to urge the Kyiv authorities to observe the basic norms of decency and cease fire for any time to investigate the Boeing 777 tragedy,” he said.
In turn, Putin said Moscow would use its influence with the rebels to allow for a full probe into the disaster.
“Russia will do its best to make the investigation full-fledged and transparent,” Putin said at the start a Security Council meeting in Moscow.
“We’ll do everything possible to influence militia in the south-east,” he continued, according to the Itar-Tass news agency.
