Unlucky Barkley almost back to his best – Everton’s Martinez

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley looked back to his threatening best in Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Dynamo Kyiv.

The Toffees were demolished 5-2 by the Ukrainian outfit in the Round of 16 second leg to crash out of the competition 6-4 on aggregate but the form of Barkley was a bright spot for manager Roberto Martinez.

“I felt Ross Barkley was a real threat in certain situations and looked like he was going back to his level,” he said of the English youngster who was so close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

“He hit the woodwork twice and both of those could easily have gone in.

“Sometimes the margins are so small.”
