UN General Assembly Votes ‘Yes’ on Calling Russian Annexation of Crimea Illegal
The vote Thursday was 100 in favor, 11 opposed and 58 abstentions.
The “yes” vote was higher than many diplomats had predicted, with more than half the 193 members of the General Assembly supporting the Ukrainian sponsored resolution.
Unlike the Security Council, General Assembly resolutions are not subject to vetoes nor are they legally binding but they do reflect world opinion.
