Ukrainian president pins hopes on United Nations talks

Russia is restricting its airspace to Ukraine starting on October 25 in response to Kyiv banning flights by Russian airlines to the country.

Russian Federation says the men had left the army and made their way to east Ukraine independently as volunteers for the separatist cause.

Sitting in the defendants’ cage at Kyiv district court as the charges were read out, both looked healthy although Yerofeyev’s arm was still bandaged following an injury sustained during the gun battle which led to their capture in the industrial province of Lugansk.

“We haven’t been abandoned”.

Speaking briefly to reporters from the courtroom cage, Mr Yerofeyev said that the two men had been in contact with their families but relatives would not be attending the trial because it is “not safe”.

Russian Federation has put a member of Ukraine’s military on trial.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko used his United Nations General Assembly platform on September 29 to urge global unity and support for Ukraine against Russia’s war. The deal is aimed to establish a closer political and economic association between Kyiv and the European Union.

He said prosecutors were “pressuring” them into giving testimony favourable to their case, and said his parents were not present because “it was not safe”.

Poroshenko and Putin will meet with the leaders of France and Germany in Paris on Friday to discuss the fragile Minsk ceasefire agreement.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin spoke Monday at the General Assembly, refuting claims that Russian Federation is expansionist and maintaining that the real threat is the Western North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance and its ambitions.

“Ukrzaliznytsya is not handling cargo and (rail) cars operated by Russia’s freight railway operator Freight One or its daughter company”, Ukrzaliznytsya said in a statement.

Her attorneys claim that Savchenko was framed and that there is no evidence of involvement in the journalists’ murder.

Trained as a helicopter navigator, she said she “does not know how to” direct artillery fire, requiring complex maths.

She was detained by pro-Russian separatists in an ambush and then held in custody for almost a week.

The EU’s energy chief, Maros Sefcovic, who mediated the talks between the two parties, said Ukraine would pay $232 per thousand cubic meters of gas in the fourth quarter, thanks to a $19 discount on Russian export duties.
