Kyiv, May 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The ecological situation in Ukraine at the present stage is rather complicated, Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has said.

“The ecological situation in Ukraine remains rather complicated, I should say this. Anthropogenic impact several times exceeds the relevant indicators in the developed countries,” he said during a conference call at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine in Kyiv on May 5, 2012.

The premier said that green belts in industrial cities and town are being reduced, illegal deforestation expands and water basins are being contaminated and killed.

In addition, chaotic organization of household waste landfills in the country is growing very fast, in particular, last year 30,000 such illegal landfills were revealed on the area of over 1,000 hectares.

“It’s time to give up any kindliness and get down to making real order,” Azarov said.

The premier said that real-time control should be established for each of the problematic directions both on the center and local levels.

Azarov also said that the government should listen to the opinions of nongovernmental organizations in the environment protection area.
