Ukrainian Green Building Council created in Ukraine, says URE Club

The Ukrainian Green Building Council (UAGBC), which aims to develop and introduce modern eco-friendly construction solutions in Ukraine, has been created in the country, reads as press release of the Ukrainian Real Estate Club (URE Club).

The release says that the UAGBC is finishing the procedure of its registration at state bodies.

The UAGBC is an official member of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), a large organization uniting over 75 national councils all over the world.

The manager for business development at Kyiv-based Knauf Insulation Ukraine, Hanna Dukhno, who is a member of the initiative group on the creation of the UAGBC, said the creation of such a body will allow the more active promotion of eco-friendly standards in Ukraine and popularize “green” projects.

“The council won’t have to issue green building standards correspondence certificates – certifying organizations exist for this. The council is to promote the introduction of ‘green’ building standards in Ukraine: thanks to its work, consumers in our country will be able to appreciate all of the positive aspects of eco-friendly projects,” the press service said, citing Dukhno.

A managing partner of ArtBuild Hotel Group, which is one of the founders of the UAGBC, Oleksiy Yevchenko, said that the task of the UAGBC is to provide aid to Ukrainian companies in studying international experience in eco-friendly construction.

“The council will popularize ideas, explain opportunities, promote standards and adapt them to national peculiarities,” he added.

The press service said that there are three ecological standards for green projects in the world: BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) – the world’s leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) consisting of a suite of rating systems for the design, construction and operation of high performance, and DGNB certification – a tool developed from practice for the straightforward assessment and planning of sustainable buildings.
