Ukrainian Government Proves Inefficient: Russian Senior Official
MOSCOW, November 6 (RIA Novosti) – The Ukrainian government has failed to adopt policies that would establish order in the country, Vladimir Dzhabarov, first deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Council’s international affairs committee, said Thursday.
“[The Ukrainian] government has been in power for six months already. So far we have not seen any steps to set things in order,” Dzhabarov said during a roundtable held at news agency Rossiya Segodnya.
“Yesterday Yatsenyuk said that they will not pay pensions to the terrorists,” he added, stressing that children and women in eastern Ukraine are not terrorists.
Following a February coup in Kyiv, residents of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine established people’s republics that later declared their independence. An armed conflict escalated in eastern Ukraine in mid-April, when Kyiv launched a military operation against independence supporters, leading to the desperate humanitarian situation in the region.
On Sunday the self-proclaimed republics held elections for the heads of local governments and representatives of legislative bodies.
Ukrainian authorities have refused to recognize the elections and to participate in bilateral talks with the representatives of eastern Ukraine.
