Moscow (dpa) – The Ukrainian government and rebel forces have agreed
to release a total of more than 50 people in the near future, Kyiv
government representative Darya Olifer said Wednesday, without
specifying how many people will be released on what side.

“The injured and seriously ill people, as well as women, will be
released first,” Russian state news agency TASS reported Olifer as
saying.

The most well-known prisoner is Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, who
is in Russian custody. She is accused of aiding in the killing of two
Russian journalists in eastern Ukraine.

The conflict, which is taking place in Ukraine‘s two eastern-most
regions, broke out in early 2014 after Ukraine ousted its pro-Russian
president amid mass protests in Kyiv calling for closer ties with the
West.

More than 8,000 people have died in the conflict, according to
estimates by the United Nations.
