Ukrainian FM Confirms Possible Normandy Ministerial Meeting Next Week

Normandy Format MeetingKYIV (Sputnik) A Normandy format meeting on the level of foreign ministers on Ukrainian reconciliation may take place next week, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said Tuesday.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko also said that the ministerial meeting of the Normandy Quartet could be held next week in the French capital of Paris. Later in the day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said that the date and location of the meeting were still being negotiated.

“I have informed my colleague [Slovak Foreign Minister] Miroslav Lajcak that there’s a chance of holding a meeting in the Normandy format next week,” Klimkin said during a joint briefing with Lajcak in Kyiv.

The Normandy Four group includes representatives from Ukraine, Russia, Germany, and France. It was created in 2014 to secure a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. In February 2015, the quartet leaders worked out a ceasefire deal in Minsk, Belarus, signed by Kyiv forces and militias of the eastern Ukrainian Donbas region.
