The Ukrainian Embassy in Armenia does not comment on calls in Kyiv for recalling the ambassador over the position of official Yerevan.
On Thursday, Oleh Tyahnybok, one of the Ukrainian nationalist leaders, expressed his indignation at the stance of Armenia and Kazakhstan regarding the right of people to self-determination in the context of Crimea’s secession from Ukraine.
The leader of the Svoboda party called for recalling Ukraine’s ambassadors from Armenia and Kazakhstan or inviting the diplomats of those countries to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine to give an explanation over the information on the recognition of the Crimea referendum by those countries.
Earlier, on Wednesday, in a telephone conversation Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin “shared opinions regarding the crisis in Ukraine and the ways out of it.”
“In that context the Presidents touched upon the situation after the referendum in Crimea and stated that the latter constitutes another case of exercise of peoples’ right to self-determination via free expression of will. At the same time the Presidents highlighted the importance of commitment to the norms and principles of the international law, first and foremost the UN Charter,” the statement released by Sargsyan’s press office said.
