Ukrainian Child Rights Ombudsman Issues Euro 2012 Pedophile Warning
The Ukrainian president’s special ombudsman for children’s rights has recommended that parents consider sending their children to summer camps during the upcoming Euro 2012 football championship because of what he describes as an increased threat from pedophiles.
Yuriy Pavlenko told journalists in Kyiv on May 28 that sex tourists, including pedophiles, are expected to visit the Ukrainian cities that will be hosting Euro 2012 games.
He said President Viktor Yanukovych has ordered police to take extra measures to protect children during the tournament.
He also suggested that parents consider sending their children to summer camps to further lessen potential threats from people who may come to Ukraine for reasons other than football.
The Euro 2012 finals are being co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine from June 8 to July 1.
