Ukraine’s unemployment rate forecast to drop in 2012

KYIV, March 7 (Xinhua) — Ukraine was expected to have a lower jobless rate this year, government officials said Wednesday.

“We forecast the actual unemployment rate in Ukraine to fall to 7.2 percent by the end of 2012, which is an average 3 percent less when compared to the European unemployment,” Deputy Prime Minister Sergiy Tigipko said during a cabinet meeting.

Tigipko, who is also the minister for social policy, said Ukraine’s actual unemployment rate declined to 7.8 percent at the end of 2011.

Tigipko proposed to reduce the number of unemployed by giving tax exemptions to employers who are “increasing the number of jobs.”
