Ceremony marking the lighting of the Christmas tree took place on December 19
The ceremony marking the beginning of the Christmas period and arrival of Ukraine’s national Christmas Tree, which is 25 metres high, took place on Kyiv’s Sofia Square on December 19.
Two years ago, the Christmas tree on Independece Square became a symbol of the Euromaidan revolution when it was taken over by protesters following a violent crackdown on November 30.
