Ukraine will be less of a stroll than Moldova
No Andy Carroll in the England squad, alas, though Roy Hodgson originally picked him. I saw his impressive, but ill-starred debut for West Ham against Fulham, where he looked thoroughly effective and even versatile, albeit the traditional centre-forward of whom Brendan Rodgers, newly installed at Anfield, wants no part. But Rodgers was left with egg on his face when, after lending Carroll and failing to sign Clint Dempsey, he found himself with a single striker, Luis Suarez, looking anything but happy and prolific up front.
