Ukraine will ban imports of some Russian goods: PM
Kyiv says it will approve a ban on the import of some Russian goods in response to similar actions by Moscow.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said this at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Ukraine’s economy ministry said earlier on Wednesday an import ban on dozens of Russian goods from dog food to locomotives could be imposed as soon as January 10.
“This means that we must continue working to ensure that local elections take place at the beginning of 2016 and that the Minsk package of measures be implemented in its entirety, including through the restoration of Ukraine’s complete control over its national borders”, said Steinmeier.
According to the Foreign Minister, “individually, the majority of European Union’s members” tell that it is a mistake “to seek confrontation with Russian Federation because of Ukraine which ended up being a victim of EU’s policy which tried to make it choose”. The list includes bakery products, pastries, chocolates, meat, fish, coffee, black tea, cigarettes, beer, and other products.
“Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande, Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko reaffirmed their commitment to a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine”, and the “concerted withdrawal without delay of heavy weapons”, France’s presidential palace said in a press release on Wednesday.
Russian Federation then annexed Crimea and backed a separatist revolt in eastern Ukraine, steps that led to Moscow’s worst standoff with the West in decades.
