Ukraine to Launch Telecommunications Satellite, Kommersant Says
Ukraine reached agreement with
Eutelsat on an orbital position for its first telecommunications
satellite, called Lybid, Kommersant-Ukraine newspaper reported,
citing Sehiy Kapshtyk, who heads Ukrkosmos, the state company
that runs the project.
Lybid is being assembled by Canadian and Russian companies
and its launch from Baikonur, in Kazakhstan, is planned for late
2013, the newspaper said.
The satellite will offer television, telephone and Internet
services, Kommersant said.
