Ukraine to Integrate Armed Forces in European Security System
14:43 GMT, July 25, 2012 KYIV | Lieutenant General Volodymyr Zamana, Chief of the General Staff – Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces met with General Richard Shirreff, the Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
The Ukrainian delegation informed the Alliance representatives on key aspects of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reforming and cooperation with NATO.
“Ukraine and its Armed Forces are aimed to join the European Community. Today, we do our best to get prepared for effective joint actions with our partners from the armies of the leading countries of the world,” Lieutenant General Volodymyr Zamana said.
The Ukrainian side briefed the NATO delegation on current status, perspectives and priorities of defense cooperation.
Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Richard Shirreff thanked the Ukrainian side for the detailed presentation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and praised the contribution of Ukrainian peacekeepers in the NATO-led operations.
Chief of the General Staff – Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Lieutenant-General Volodymyr Zamana thanked General Richard Shirreff for the support and assistance that Ukraine receives from the states – members of the Alliance.
“Ukraine wills to have its Armed Forces integrated into the European security system,” he concluded.
