Ukraine should host Euro 2012 – Tymoshenko daughter

.

Kyiv. Over 2,000 people gathered in Kyiv on Saturday to protest against the regime of President Viktor Yanukovych and express support for jailed ex-premier Yulia Tymoshenko, who has been moved to a hospital, AFP reported.
The protestors called their rally an “opposition congress” that gathered several opposition parties on a central square in the capital in support of Tymoshenko, who is serving a seven-year jail term after a disputed verdict.
“Freedom for Ukraine! Freedom for Yulia!” shouted Olexander Turchinov, Tymoshenko’s aide and deputy head of her party.
Ukraine’s opposition leaders unveiled a plan of action ahead of October parliamentary elections that the West sees as a litmus test for the authorities following criticism over their increasingly undemocratic approach.

Kharkiv. Ukraine’s jailed and ailing ex-premier Yulia Tymoshenko will end her 19-day hunger strike Wednesday after agreeing to be hospitalised under the supervision of a German doctor, her daughter said, cited by AFP.
Tymoshenko will be moved to a hospital in the eastern city of Kharkiv on Wednesday, when German neurologist Lutz “Harms will begin bringing mother out of her hunger strike”, daughter Yevgenia told reporters Tuesday after visiting her 51-year-old mother in jail.

Libya women plunge into politics
Tripoli. Showing that women in Libya can be much more than just sexy bodyguards or accessories to murder, women are dipping into politics in the hope of drafting a constitution which protects their rights, AFP writes.
Australia open to Syria military intervention: AFP
Canberra. Australia said Wednesday it was open to discussions about military intervention in Syria as threatened by France, but warned of significant challenges getting it off the ground, the AFP reports.
Canberra led Western powers in ejecting Syrian diplomats Tuesday in protest at the Houla massacre which claimed at least 108 lives, and Foreign Minister Bob Carr said Australia “would talk about” the French proposal for force.
