Ukraine, Russia Meet for 2nd Day over Gas Talks
Ukraine and Russia are meeting for a second day Sunday in Kyiv in an attempt to negotiate an end to their bitter natural gas dispute.
Russia has threatened to cut off its gas supply to Ukraine by Monday if Kyiv does not pay Russia’s state-owned Gazprom for previous gas shipments.
Following failed recent European Union-brokered talks in Brussels, Russia warned Ukraine against refusing an offer from Moscow that would cut the price Kyiv pays for gas by about 20 percent.
Ukraine says it wants a deeper discount.
Ukraine also serves as a conduit for about 15 percent of Europe’s gas supply. A halt in Ukraine’s gas could affect supplies to other parts of Europe.
