Ukraine Presidency: French, German Heads’ Envoys to Visit Kyiv January 18

The Washington Monument is seen beyond the US State Department's flag June 30, 2015 in Washington, DCMOSCOW (Sputnik) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s and French President Francois Hollande’s envoys will arrive in Kyiv on Monday seeking a full ceasefire in conflict-torn eastern Ukrainian regions, the website of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated on Saturday.

“The special envoys of the Federal German chancellor, Christophe Hoysgen, and French president, Jacques Audibert, will visit Ukraine on January 18-19,” the announcement read, citing a prior agreement reached between the three leaders on January 13.

The statement adds that the meeting would seek ways to achieve a full ceasefire in southeastern Ukraine, withdrawal of heavy weapons and the release of prisoners.
