Ukraine pays Russia 1.3 billion USD for February gas supply
KYIV, March 7 (Xinhua) — Ukraine’s state-run “Naftogas” has paid 1.3 billion U.S. dollars to Russian gas-giant “Gazprom” for natural gas supplies in February 2012, the “Naftogas” press- service said on Wednesday.
Ukraine imported around 3.1 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia at the price of 416 U.S. dollars per thousand cubic meters, the press-service said.
Currently, Ukraine disputes the new price set by Gazprom for 2012 deliveries, which is more than triple the price from 2008.
In 2009, Ukraine and Russia signed a contract that tied gas prices to those of oil. Ukraine has been long seeking to amend the deal.
On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said that his country plans to import less Russian natural gas, because the price of 416 U.S. dollars per thousand cubic meters is unbearable for the Ukraine’s budget.
