KYIV, Ukraine – Ukraine`s interim president said the Ukraine navy would resist “to the end” against the attempt of Russian takeovers.

President Oleksandr Turchynov said that Ukraine’s commanders have pledged to oppose Russian military oppression, without thought of surrender.

Tensions are still increasing in Ukraine`s autonomous Crimea, despite the international stance against the Kremlin, he added.

The Defense Minister, Igor Tenyukh, told press on Monday that the number of Russian soldiers in the Crimean peninsula has reached 16,000, after 5,000 thousand troops were deployed, violating previous agreements between the two countries.

Earlier on Monday, NATO`s chief, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, urged Russia to cease its military presence in Ukraine.

The situation in Crimea escalated on Saturday after Russia’s Parliament issued an authorization to intervene in the peninsula, in order to allegedly ensure political stability and protection of its Russian ethnic majority.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has denied Moscow`s ‘meddling’ with Ukrainian politics, at the same time, its military secured the fleet to provide ‘safety for Russians’, a statement issued on Monday said.
