After a 242-day defence, troops were forced to give up the strategic transport hub in the east of the country to Russian-backed militants. More than 200 soldiers lost their lives.
Here at Kyiv’s Boryspol airport, a remembrance ceremony is being held. Similar events are taking place across the country.
Servicemen say the Kyiv airport building is symbolic, because it closely resembles the one which was destroyed in Donetsk.
