Ukraine doubles gas imports from EU in 2015 -Ukrtransgaz

KYIV Jan 6 (Reuters) – Ukraine doubled imports of natural
gas from the European Union in 2015 and sharply reduced
purchases from Russia, gas transport monopoly Ukrtransgaz said
on Wednesday.

The government, which has taken Russian gas exporter Gazprom
to court over a 2009 gas contract, has said Kyiv
intends to buy more gas on the European market and reduce its
dependence on Russian gas.

Ukraine’s gas imports from Europe rose to 10.3 billion cubic
metres (bcm) in 2015 from about 5 bcm the year before,
Ukrtransgas said in a statement

Imports from Russia fell to 6.1 bcm from about 14.5 bcm, it
said.

Ukrtransgas said most of the imported European gas came via
Slovakia.
