Ukraine Announces Large-scale Military Demobilization

14 de septiembre de 2015, 11:52Kyiv, Sep 14 (Prensa Latina) The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, today announced that his country is currently undergoing a large-scale demobilization of military personnel.

In statements to television, Poroshenko congratulated those men he called heroes and thanked their participation in the repression against the population in the rebel regions.

The president also warned through the 112 Ukraine television channel that Kyiv authorities will not pass the constitutional amendments over the country’s decentralization in case that new combats are reported in

Donbass (south-eastern Ukraine).

The President also again called the condition of martial law in the country if there is a war, and noted that in that case it will be impossible the introduction of the constitutional amendments on decentralization.

Poroshenko hinted that the Supreme Rada (unicameral Parliament) could set a new date for the local elections in Donbass, which will not be held on October 25 in that territory.

He explained that they cannot guarantee the work of the Ukrainian media, political parties, and the people’s safety.

The structures that took power in Ukraine after the February 22, 2014 coup d’ etat announced local elections scheduled for October 25, which according to their plans will not be held in that date in the insurgent Peoples Republics of Donetsk (RPD) and Lugansk (RPL).

For their part, the RPD announced that local elections will be held on October 18, and the RPL on November 1, in both cases out of the Kyiv’s control.
