Two killed, three injured in Ukraine’s traffic accident

KYIV, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) — At least two people were killed and three others were seriously injured in a car accident in western Ukraine on Tuesday, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.

A car lost control and crashed head-on into a bus, which carried 30 passengers, at 3:00 a.m. local time (0100GMT) on a highway near Sapizhanka village, Lviv region, the ministry said.

Two passengers in the car were killed on the spot, while three others were injured and sent to a nearby hospital immediately. The bus passengers, who declined to receive medical aid, left with minor injuries.

Results of initial investigation suggested that fatigue of the car driver might have caused the accident.

Traffic accidents are common in Ukraine due to poor road conditions and drivers’ lack of discipline. At least 74 Ukrainians have lost their lives in 565 accidents since the beginning of 2012.
