Turkey, Ukraine Sign Protocol to Boost Economic Cooperation

Turkey and Ukraine signed on Friday a protocol to deepen cooperation between the countries in economy and trade.

The protocol was signed by Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan and his Ukrainian counterpart Sergei Tigipko after the eighth term meeting of Turkey-Ukraine Trade and Economic Cooperation Committee in capital Kyiv.

“I believe that this protocol will bring our ties in trade and economy to a much higher level,” Babacan told the penning ceremony, adding that Turkey attached great importance to regional cooperation.

Babacan said relations with Ukraine would become stronger once the two countries signed a free trade agreement with an already sealed deal for visa-free travel.

Babacan said relations economic relations between Turkey and Ukraine were specifically strong in construction sector, adding that Turkish contractors carried out 128 projects which were worth of 2.8 billion USD.

Babacan said the protocol also aimed at increasing cooperation in science, industry, technology, energy as well as transportation and agriculture.

Tigipko on his part said that Turkey was a very important partner for Ukraine, adding that Ukraine attached great importance to bilateral cooperation.

The Turkish deputy prime minister also separately met with Ukraine’s prime minister as well as foreign and finance ministers.
