Title-Race: A Look At Man City’s Remaining Fixtures
Man City’s title bid hinges largely on the fitness of Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero. Without Kompany, they leak goals at an alarming rate and with Aguero in the side, they have someone who can win games even when the team isn’t playing well.
With a favourable Champions League tie against Dynamo Kyiv to look forward to, as well as a potential FA Cup run, here’s a breakdown of Man City’s remaining fixtures.
City’s next few games aren’t so bad as they travel to Aston Villa and Sunderland in what should be two easy wins, but given how shaky they are without Kompany, probably won’t be.
After that, City embark on a somewhat tough run. They host both Leicester (H) and Tottenham (H), before travelling to Dynamo Kyiv for the first-leg of their Champions League tie.
It’s got to the point in Pelligrini’s tenure where if they aren’t beating a team like Dynamo Kyiv over two-legs then questions should be asked about his job. Yes, it’s a big game in the wider context of their European dreams, but is also a game they should expect to win, which is why it was left off that list.
After their trip to Kyiv, they travel to Newcastle, which is usually a ground they perform well at, but then again, Newcastle have found ways to grind out results at home so City should also be cautious of that.
Next for City is Liverpool (A), Aston Villa (H), Norwich (A) before their second-leg against Kyiv, which is a game before a huge Manchester derby against United on the 20th of March.
Now, if Man City advance in Europe, the games you might expect them to win, i.e. vs Aston Villa Norwich, become that bit harder as the travelling and competitive of a European cup run takes its toll.
After that, City’s games aren’t as easy as they seem on paper. Bournemouth (A), West Brom (H), Chelsea (A), Stoke (H), Southampton (A) are City’s next 5 games, before the potential title-decider at home to Arsenal.
City finish the season with a trip to the Liberty stadium, which could again be huge if Swansea are still embroiled in a relegation battle.
