Time for Putin to deliver blow to fascism in Europe: Analyst
The ongoing crisis in Ukraine requires Russia to deliver a mortal blow to fascism in Europe, an analyst writes in a column for the Press TV website, as fascist-run Kyiv continues to stoke up tensions.
“Seventy years ago, Russia defeated fascism in Europe. It is time to deliver that honorable blow again,” wrote Finian Cunningham.
He said “world public opinion” would support anti-fascism action by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Washington will find that it is a loser, and deserves it. It has nothing on its side but malign and negative forces,” he wrote.
Cunningham said Putin should deploy troops to eastern Ukraine as “the Western-backed unelected, fascist regime in Kyiv” has killed more than 50 protesters.
“The escalating violence committed by the Kyiv junta under the Orwellian guise of ‘an anti-terror operation’ strongly warrants that President Putin should give the go-ahead,” wrote the analyst.
Cunningham said Russia “should act with boldness” against fascism “regardless of Western propaganda accusing Russia of malfeasance.”
“Putin should not be blackmailed by baseless lies when peoples’ lives are being threatened by a Western-backed fascist cabal and their murderous paramilitaries,” he further notes
On May 2, nearly 70 people were killed and hundreds of others injured after the Ukrainian forces launched a military operation against pro-Russia protesters, who are in control of several eastern cities.
In a statement, Russia’s Foreign Ministry censured Kyiv over the deadly incident in Odessa, saying it was “another manifestation of the criminal irresponsibility of the Kyiv authorities.”
Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also accused Kyiv authorities of waging a war against their own people, saying, “Those in power in the Ukrainian capital should come around and stop killing their own citizens. Otherwise the country’s fate may be extremely sad.”
Tensions in Ukraine heightened after Crimea declared independence from Kyiv and formally applied to become part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in March.
