Temnik: Decision Has Been Made To Tow Automobiles Parked On Kyiv Roads …

Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Utility, and Housing Hennadii Temnik has announced that automobiles parked on Kyiv roads will be towed away if they prevent the clearing of snow from the city’s streets.

Temnik made the announcement to reporters in Kyiv.

“The government decided today to use tow trucks to remove automobiles parked on the road. This will significantly improve the ability to clear the streets of snow and do it quickly,” he said.

Temnik added that the issue of payment to recover automobiles from car pounds is presently being considered.

The minister added that this decision was made because snow removal equipment moves at a speed of 13 km/h under normal conditions, but it is moving at 0.5 km/h because of the current situation.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said that Kyiv’s public utilities are incapable of promptly remove snow from the streets.

Kyiv has declared an emergency because of heavy snowfall.

During a government conference call on March 24, the Cabinet of Ministers declared March 25 a holiday in Kyiv and the Kyiv region and moved this working day to April 13.

The Kyivavtodor municipal road corporation announced on March 21 that it was ready for the expected deterioration of weather conditions during the period of March 22-23.

On March 22, Kyiv announced that there were 328 snowplows on the roads.
