Teixeira ‘very happy’ with Chelsea interest

The Brazilian welcomes the attentions of the Premier League club and believes a transfer could increase his chances of making the Brazil national team squad

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Alex Teixeira is “very happy” that Chelsea are interested in signing him, amid speculation regarding a €30 million deal.

The Brazilian, who has scored 26 goals so far this season as the Donetsk club look to regain the Ukrainian Premier League title from Dynamo Kyiv, remains outspoken about his desire to move.

Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu has spoken recently of his desire to block any bid for the midfielder in the January transfer window, but Teixeira remains hopeful that a deal can be done.

Asked by O Globo about a possible move to the Premier League, Teixeira said: “Chelsea? I’m very happy that they’re interested. On my part, I do everything to continue improving.”

The 26-year-old also suggested that a move to the Premier League could improve his chances of breaking into the Brazilian national team set-up. Teixeira is uncapped but looking to follow former Shakhar team-mate Fernandinho in establishing himself in international football following a transfer to England.

“I want to be part of the Brazilian national team, so I may have to switch clubs,” he added.
