Wolfsburg has reportedly paid an initial €6 million ($7.6 million) for the 19-year-old left-back on a 4½-year contract.

Rodriguez made his international debut in a 2012 European Championship qualifier against Wales last October. He featured in the Swiss team that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2009, beating host Nigeria in the final.

Rodriguez is the second young Swiss international Zurich has sold this month, after forward Admir Mehmedi joined Dynamo Kyiv.
