Lens, a summer arrival from Dynamo Kyiv, had looked to be set for a January exit after being fined in December for a breach of club discipline.
However, the Dutchman was handed a start in the FA Cup defeat at Arsenal and managed to grab a goal, before impressing in the Premier League win at Swansea on Wednesday.
Lens now hopes he can establish himself as a regular starter in Sam Allardyce’s side in the remainder of the campaign.
He told the club’s official website: “Last weekend was my first 90 minutes in three months, so I’m happy with that and hopefully I can continued this and play some more games.
“I want to be important for the team and help them to win games.
“In the situation we’re in now we need all the points we can get. We knew it Swansea were in a similar position to us so we needed to try and win, and we did which is good.”
