Storms leave 2 injured, 345 villages without power in Ukraine
KYIV, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — At least two people were injured and 345 villages were left without power Tuesday after summer storms struck eastern and northern Ukrainian regions overnight, emergency authorities said.
According to Ukraine’s Emergencies Ministry, 10 regions were hit hard by the abnormal weather in the country.
Over 1,000 trees were uprooted by the storms throughout the night, while a number of electric poles fell, damaging electrical and thermal networks and causing a blackout in 345 villages across the country, the ministry said.
The local government of the eastern Donetsk region reported earlier that two people were injured when the strong wind knocked over a tree in Svatogorsk city.
The country’s meteorological authorities said the weather would go back to normal on Thursday
