Salamov Defeats Ngumbu In Brovary
By Dmytro Mossienko at ringside; Kyiv based Chechen light heavyweight European WBO belt holder Umar Salamov (13-0-0, 10KO) defended his title in a brutal clash with Frenchman Doudou Ngumbu (35-7-0,13) on Saturday night.
Ngumbu came to Kyiv with upset in mind, as he did already, having out-boxed Ukrainian light heavyweight Vyacheslav Uzelkov in 2013 in his own backyard.
Uzelkov’s experience helped Salamov to sustain his position and win the fight that headlined an exciting boxing card staged by the K2 East in the huge Terminal Arena in Brovary near Kyiv.
Former WBC light heavy intercontinental champion and African boxing Union champion, Ngumbu proved once again, that he is an early starter, wasting no time to build up advantage, enter close quarters with right cross or left hook. 21 years-old Salamov never lost control of the steering wheel in this fight and always behaved like a champion, however, 33 years-old Ngumbu showed quite a few tricks up on his sleeve, sometimes taking the opponent off balance, mocking him and trying to catch off guard. However, in the third quarter of the fight, the Frenchman started eating increasingly more jabs from young opponent. Umar Salamov’s perfect stamina, solid left and right jabs and clever advice from his corner brought the fight to the logical ending: the victory by unanimous decision over dangerous and hungry opponent.
In the main co-event, Ukraine’s London Olympian and silver medal holder welterweight Denis Berinchik (2-0-0, 2Ko) stopped in round six Holland based Nigerian Innocent Anyanwu (23-13-3, 13). Having lost some time with signing post Olympic professional contract, Berinchik was all business in his first two fights. Inside the ring in Terminal he dominated his opponent from round one, looking for the holes in his opponent’s defense. Anyanwu caught his opponent with crisp counterpunches on several occasions. His good physical condition and clever advice from the corner helped the Nigerian to weather the stormy rounds 1-5.
However, when Berinchik, who was in perfect physical shape after the camp in Carpathian mountains with his coach Sergey Vatamanyuk, geared up pressure in round six, the African fighter was obviously overwhelmed and would not respond with no meaningful action for some 20 seconds, which forced the third man Victor Fesechko to stop the action.
In another exciting, though brutal undercard fight light middleweight Khasan Baysangurov (10-0-0, 5KO) decked in round two with brutal body punch Marcelo Ruben Molina (17-12-0, 14) from Buenos Aires, winning in this fashion WBO Youth middleweight title.
