Ryanair’s arrival in Ukraine to reduce Euro 2012 hotel prices

Kolesnikov told Donetsk-based FC Shaktar that the arrival of the airline in Ukraine will help to resolve the problem of escalating hotel prices during the Euro 2012 football tournament, which is being jointly hosted by his country and Poland from 8 June to 1 July.

“I think that before the end of April this problem will have been resolved,” he said. “First, we are in the final stages of signing an agreement with Ryanair concerning their entry into Ukrainian market.

All fans will be able to calculate the cost of flight for every match and accommodation in Ukraine. I think from that moment the hotel prices will go down dramatically. A return ticket from London to Donetsk will cost US$300. England will play three group stage games in Ukraine. Hence, the total cost will be US$900. If the hotel rooms cost more than US$200, then a ten0day stay here will be lot more expensive. I think it will quickly cool ardour of our hotels.”

Last week, UEFA President Michel Platini expressed his concern over the high prices set by Ukrainian hotels for accommodation during the championship.

While the England team will have its base in Krakow in Poland, all of its first-round games will take place in Kyiv and Donetsk in Ukraine.

The Irish team, meanwhile, will be based in Gdynia and will play its games in neighbouring Gdansk and in Poznan, all in Poland.
