Russian Federation makes proposal to International Monetary Fund on Kyiv’s $3 …
President Vladimir Putin met with worldwide Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde on Sunday, with the Russian leader saying she hoped for “stability” in Moscow’s relations with the organisation.Putin said that rather than seeking $3 billion in debt repayment this year, Russian Federation would be willing to agree to payments of $1 billion a year in 2016-18.
“The proposal was received with interest”, Putin said.
He said: “We are ready not to receive any money this year”.
“If the West can not give a guarantee, it means they do not believe in the future of the Ukrainian economy”, Putin said, adding that the matter should be decided by December.
Russian Federation has reportedly declined to join the debt-restructuring talks and said it would file a lawsuit against Ukraine to the worldwide court if the debt payments were not met.
“The Ministry has not received any direct information and has no comment at this time”, the ministry said in an emailed statement.
In August, the Ukrainian government and a group of its worldwide creditors have reached an agreement, which envisages a 20-percent write-off of Kyiv’s outstanding foreign debts and a 4-year extension of the loan repayment period.
