Russia, Ukraine to conduct joint military drills
MOSCOW, March 7 (Xinhua) — Russia and Ukraine will conduct joint military drills this spring and fall, Defense Minister Antoly Serdyukov said Wednesday.
After talks with Ukrainian Defense Minister Dmytro Salamatin, Serdyukov told reporters that Moscow and Kyiv would jointly hold naval exercises in the Black Sea in May and ground exercises “Slavic Commonwealth” in September.
Serdyukov added that the two countries would also jointly test the An-70 military cargo plane the Ukrainian military-industrial complex would take orders for repairs of the Russian planes.
“Russia stands for the creation of a common security space with Ukraine. For that, we have good potential in military and technical spheres,” Serdyukov said.
He also said that the two countries are negotiating an agreement in which Ukraine would provide Russia test grounds on the Crimea Peninsula for aircraft-carrier pilots.
