Russia: No regular troops in eastern Ukraine

Russia has reiterated that there are no regular Russian troops fighting in eastern Ukraine, a day after Kyiv said it had captured two Russian servicemen there.

Ukraine and NATO have long been accusing Moscow of supporting rebels with troops and military supplies. Moscow has acknowledged in the past that Russian national “volunteers” might be fighting with the rebels, but has repeatedly denied that any regular troops are involved.

Ukraine’s security chief says the two Russian soldiers were seized on Saturday near Luhansk. It accused the two of participating in the killing of a Ukrainian soldier, and said they would be prosecuted for “terrorist actions”.
