Russia: ‘Compromise’ is the solution to the Ukraine crisis, says Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said “compromise” is the only way to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
Speaking from Moscow at a joint press conference with his Tunisian counterpart Mongi Hamdi in Moscow, Lavrov criticised the West for supporting Kyiv and undermining the peace process. He again insisted that Russia backed a peaceful solution.
“Those who are for peace are still trying to advance a negotiated political settlement of all the fundamental questions Ukrainians face,” Lavrov said, adding “And in Kyiv, those who are for war are taking steps clearly aimed at undermining these efforts.”
He expanded on this by saying Ukraine’s efforts to join the NATO alliance are aimed at destroying any attempt at ending the war in the east.
Lavrov also criticised Australia for its planned proposal to exclude Russia from the G20 summit, due to be held in Brisbane in November.
