Prosecutor’s Office Completes Additional Investigation Into Murder Of Student …
The prosecutor’s office has concluded the additional investigation of the criminal case against police officers Serhii Prykhodko and Serhii Kovalenko of Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi District Police Department, who are accused of exceeding their authority during the detention of Ihor Indylo, a student who died of head injury in police detention.
Oleksandr Zarutskyi, a lawyer for the parents of Indylo, announced this to Ukrainian News.
The prosecutor’s office has sent the case file to Zarutskyi for familiarization.
At the same time, the lawyer said that the additional investigation essentially revealed no significant new circumstances in the case.
In particular, according to him, no additional witnesses were questioned and the additional expert assessment that was performed did not provide a clear answer to the question regarding the origins of Indylo’s head injury and the blood clot in his stomach.
According to Zarutskyi, the only positive result of the additional investigation is that investigators have officially admitted that Kovalenko, who was the duty officer at the police department during the night of the incident, did not take timely action to call physicians to help Indylo.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on May 14 the Kyiv Appeal Court returned the criminal case against Prykhodko and Kovalenko on suspicion of abuse of authority during the detention of Indylo to the Desnianskyi district prosecutor’s office in Kyiv for further investigation.
