Pro-Russian militants refuse Ukraine’s new deal to disarm
Pro-Russian militants in Donetsk warned that they would not abide by the agreement. They refused to disarm or to leave government buildings they have occupied there, defying the peace terms set out by the Ukraine government in Kyiv, Russia and the West.
Denis Pushilin, head of the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov “did not sign anything for us, he signed on behalf of the Russian Federation”.
Rejecting the deal, Mr Pushilin warned that the prime minister and acting president of Ukraine, who took power in the country in February, would have to quit.
