Previously unknown texts of Malevich’s speeches discovered in Kyiv

KYIV, 6 January (BelTA – UKRINFORM) – Previously unknown texts of speeches by avant-garde painter Kazimir Malevich have been found in Kyiv in the home archive of the artist’s assistant Maryan Kropivnitsky who was taking down Malevich’s speeches delivered in Kyiv, BelTA has learned.
The discovered texts comprise Malevich’s speeches regarding the development of an experimental arts cabinet in Kyiv Institute of Arts and his ideas on the training of artists and establishment of a new academy of arts. Four out of five texts were never published before. They are scheduled for publishing in February 2016.
“This is a landmark event for the cultural life of Kyiv. Up to now, the Kyiv period has been the least studied period of Kazimir Malevich’s creative life,” art manager, researcher of the artist’s works Tatyana Filevskaya noted.
Kazimir Malevich used to describe himself as a citizen of the Earth and the space. Tatyana Filevskaya recalled that French researcher of Ukrainian origin Valentina Marcade was the first to talk about the Kyiv period of Malevich’s life.
