President may call elections to end Kyiv crisis

President Yanukovych has privately ruled out using force against protestors
and is instead considering early elections, according to one of his closest
supporters.

Yuriy Miroshnychenko, Mr Yanukovych’s personal representative in parliament,
said that the president spoke to MPs last week about “two possible
scenarios” to end the crisis.

They were the amnesty bill that Mr Miroshnychenko steered through the
Verkhovna Rada parliament amid high drama last Wednesday night, in the face
of complaints from opposition politicians who refused to vote, and early
elections.
