Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called on European countries to provide assistance to Ukraine to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the country’s eastern regions, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state said this at a meeting with the heads of the parliaments of Denmark, , Lithuania, Poland and Sweden in Kyiv on Friday.
“Reporting on the situation in Donbas, the president stressed the need for urgent action to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and urged European countries to join in providing assistance to Ukraine in the establishment of a peaceful life,” the report says.
Poroshenko said that it was necessary to provide more assistance to Ukraine to conduct reforms and expand economic and defense cooperation.
“This should be a mutually beneficial partnership,” Poroshenko said.
He also proposed that the parliaments of the five countries send their representatives for early parliamentary elections in Ukraine on October 26.
