Poroshenko asks Putin in letter to free pilot Savchenko
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says he has sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to immediately free Ukrainian pilot and parliamentarian Nadia Savchenko.
“I separately raised the issue of Nadia Savchenko. As is known, I have sent a letter to President Putin with the message that Nadia Savchenko should be immediately freed, including for medical reasons, and I asked the [Italian] prime minister to raise this issue and help resolve this extremely sensitive and painful problem,” Poroshenko told journalists following negotiations with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Poroshenko said Renzi and he had discussed the implementation of the Minsk agreements as concerns the immediate release of all prisoners based on the all-for-all principle.
“We know for sure today that, out of more than 400 prisoners, we told the Russian Federation about the location of 190 prisoners, and we expect the soonest possible implementation of the obligation to release all prisoners,” he said.
